Lord Jesus, we the youth of Asia come before you as labourers in your kingdom. O Lord of the harvest, we surrender the countries in Asia and pray that you send forth labourers in this land. Loving God, pour your Holy Spirit on us and kindle your divine love within us that our efforts be focussed completely on you and for your glory alone. Guide us Jesus, especially in our preparations for this conference. Mother Mary, walk every step with us and continually intercede for us. St. Francis Xavier, the great evangelist of our lands, pray for us that we may be blessed with the same zeal you had. St. Michael the archangel, protect us from the powers of darkness. A short reflection on cross suffering

Part - I:

“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” It can be put as an advertisement: “Come, join our faith and suffer!” Actually, Jesus is giving us the common sense wisdom of human life. If you want to follow a medical or engineering career, you must deny too many nights of sleep, take up the cross of rigorous study and follow the teacher. If you want to qualify for the Olympics, you have to deny many of your leisure times, take up the cross of brutal exercises, and follow the coach. So it goes. What Jesus is saying, therefore, is an insight into life itself. No crosses mean no growth; no pain, no gain, as they say. But pay attention: Christianity goes further. It teaches that, as a mark of true discipleship, there are three types of crosses: the cross of inconvenience, the cross of witness and the cross of martyrdom.

Let us look at the first cross today, the cross of inconvenience : If my mother is sick and I pray that she gets better, but I have not inconvenienced myself to take her to the doctor, I have not really prayed as a cross-bearing Christian. If I see a colleague or friend who looks depressed and pray for her, but do not go out of my way to speak to her, then I am not praying as a cross-bearing Christian. If I pray for a close friend in difficulty today but do not inconvenience myself to go and visit him or call him up to say that you care for him, how is it that prayer supposed to touch him? If I pray for world peace, but do not openly forgive those who have hurt me, how can God bring about peace in this planet? Our prayer needs a level of inconvenience to back it up. It needs the cross to be fruitful.

Part -II: Ask Myself

How do I respond to this Word of God in my life: “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”

1. Do I often stop my prayers merely in words alone or do I act on my prayer too?

2.Am I afraid of little inconveniences in my life for the good of someone else?

Part -III: Action for today

I will take up a little ‘cross of inconvenience' for the good of a needy brother or sister, acknowledging that Jesus took up that Cross for my sake.

The Venue for the Retreat is

Franciscan Fathers Retreat Centre
43 Moo 7, Lamsai, Lamkukha, Prathumthani, Bangkok.

The Registration fee for the retreat is 350 baht.

We will leave from Assumption University, Huamak Campus around 5.30 p.m on Friday the 17th of March and will return by around 5.30 p.m. on Sunday the 19th.

So keep yourself free around those dates and do contact us for any queries.

I know it has been a couple of weeks since a post has appeared here, but with good reason we are busy planning our retreat here in bangkok, Thailand ( yes! its happening!!). The last two weeks have been eventful, preparations for the retreat, core team meetings and the prayer meetings of course!

This saturday something that was very much absent was the coffee (too lazy to make some, also volunteers welcome!!!) but we did have am amazing time of Praise & Worship followed by a testimony from George.

The Retreat is happening on 18th & 19th of March. Exact venue details to be posted here ( also ...we need a name for the retreat, so all you smart alecks out there, send us your suggestions!)

The General Coordinator for the retreat is Tijo, who is currently finishing his MBA ( Do keep him in your prayers....he is writing his final exams!)

A Valentine’s Day Prayer

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” – I CORINTHIANS 13:4-7 NIV

Lord,
Because love is patient…
Help me to be slow to judge, but quick to listen.
Hesitant to criticize, but eager to encourage,
remembering your endless patience with me.

Because love is kind…
Help my words to be gentle and my actions to be thoughtful. Remind me to smile and to say “Please” and “Thank You”
because those little things still mean so much.

Because love does not envy or boast, and it is not proud…
Help me have a heart that is humble and sees the good in others. May I celebrate and appreciate all that I have and all that I am, as well as doing the same for those around me.

Because love is not rude or self-seeking…
Help me to speak words that are easy on the ear and on the heart. When I’m tempted to get wrapped up in my own little world, remind me there’s a great big world out there full of needs and hurts.

Most of us take for granted what has been freely given to us, our health, our talents, the various graces and blessings that have been given to us when there are millions who have none of these.

One very important thing that we all take for granted is praising the Lord. Does he really require it? Do we really need to praise God?

For the dead cannot give you thanks, death cannot give you praise. The living, the living alone can give you thanks and praise as I do.
Isaiah 38:17,19

More simply just as we would say a thank you to somebody who does us a favor, how much more should we be thankful to Him who provides us with everything. Isn't it simply impossible not to praise him for all the wonders he bestows in our lives?

Praise would be the simple bridge between heaven & earth. Once we begin to praise God we become more closer to him and his love!

Activity for the Week
Please don't forget to pray at 7.00 a.m in the morning for this prayer group and for all who come along.

Sunday, 11th of February is the World Day of the Sick. Please remember to pray for the sick around the world and also lift up people you know who are sick as the church the world over intercedes for this intention.

Today we had a wonderful time of Praise and worship, followed by a sharing of atleast one good thing that happenned in our lives over the past week. A beautiful time where we gave thanks for a new job, a father whose son started to walk his first footsteps, of good presentations at the university.......Truly a beautiful time.

All this followed by some great coffee. Maybe we would have biscuits next time.

Activity for the Week
Let us strive to listen more deeply to His calling. Try to spend atleast 15 minutes a day with the Lord in the week to come.

A Beginning......

The prayer group in Bangkok, Thailand was started in December 2005. We started with a prayer meeting that happens every saturday at 5.00 p.m at the Chapel of Anunciation in the Huamak Campus of Assumption university, Bangkok, Thailand.

We have a time of Praise and Worship, followed by a Sharing of the word.
